JPG to PNG Converter — Free Online
Free online JPG to PNG converter. Change image format in seconds — nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.
What this page does
Converting JPG to PNG does not add quality — the detail lost when the JPG was compressed is gone for good. The real reasons to do it: a form or tool that only accepts PNG uploads, or preparing an image for editing, since re-saving a JPG degrades it a little more each time while PNG is lossless.
The mini converter below is pre-set to output PNG. Drop in your JPG file and download the converted image — free, no account, no watermark.
PNG vs JPG vs WebP at a glance
| Format | Best for | Transparency | Typical size |
|---|---|---|---|
| PNG | Logos, graphics, screenshots, anything needing transparency | Yes | Large |
| JPG / JPEG | Photos and photographic images for the web | No | Small |
| WebP | Modern web images — small files with transparency | Yes | Smallest |
Sizes are relative for the same image at comparable visual quality.
Getting the best result
- Match the format to the destination. Portals that say “PNG only” mean it — uploading the wrong format is the most common rejection after file size.
- Convert once. Every lossy re-encode (JPG, WebP) shaves a little quality; converting the same file back and forth between formats degrades it for no reason.
- Need a size limit too? Convert the format here first, then compress to your exact kilobyte target with the image compressor.

Will my JPG look better as a PNG?
Honestly, no. Conversion cannot restore detail that JPG compression removed. The pixels stay exactly as they were; only the container changes. Convert for compatibility or for lossless editing, not for quality.
Will the PNG be much bigger?
Yes — often several times larger than the JPG, because PNG stores every pixel losslessly. If file size matters, keep the JPG; only convert when something specifically requires PNG.
Does the file leave my device?
No. The format converter is a static web page with no server behind it — your image is decoded and re-encoded by your own browser, and the download is created locally.
